LUCILIA SERICATA VIDEO/AI/XR/INSTALLATION 2026
CLIENT: SESC 24 DE MAIO
POSITION: CREATIVE TECHNOLOGIST TOOLS: ADOBE CREATIVE CLOUD, SORA, RUNWAY, KLING AI, OBS STUDIO, LENS STUDIO, BLENDER
Lucilia Sericata is a choreographic installation that uses bodily and videographic technologies to establish a game of superimpositions between body and image, tensioning fictional patterns constructed for a Black woman.

The choreographic installation articulates dance, performance, visual arts, and augmented reality (AR) with

the intention of fictionalizing, through recognizable and inaugural patterns, the body and ambience for a Black woman. It is a formal study of presence, performance, and virtuality.

As the project’s video and augmented reality designer, I developed its visual language and created a series of AI-generated videos and AR elements that layered virtual imagery with the performer’s body. The projections were designed not as a background, but as an active presence within the performance, creating an evolving dialogue between physical and digital bodies while supporting the work’s exploration of transformation, regeneration, and the fictional representations imposed on Black women.

A NOTE ON CREATIVE PROCESS - BEHIND THE IMAGE-GENERATION-PROCESS

The 3D digital clay heads we see dancing in Lucilia are the result of a complex algorithmic process. I asked Carmen and Dani to write short biographies of Black women—from the past and the future. The image-generation system I created begins with text. The short biographies they wrote function as the emotional “source code” for each image. Instead of describing physical features to the machine, the system is fed the character’s life story: where she came from, her dreams, her frustrations, and her legacy. This textual input is then combined with the root heads: a digital scan of Dani’s head, a photograph of her mother, Terezinha, and another of her aunt,Tânia.

As it processes these stories, the machine reveals a structural bias: it tends to reproduce the same facial pattern for Black women, regardless of how different the biographies are. The process, therefore, requires an intervening system that translates the stories into distinct imagined facial morphologies, along with restrictive commands designed to prevent repetition and force the algorithm to generate genuine diversity.

The aim is to honor the singularity of each story while also dancing with the AI system's machine-made visual repertoire. The result is a series of ancestor-futurist entities that share the many-mouthed pipe running through this work.

The program is organized into two sessions, divided over two days. The first presents a conceptual and historical overview of video as both a technology and an artistic language, tracing developments from early research in artificial intelligence to contemporary creative practices. The second session takes the form of a practical and poetic lab, where participants develop performance prototypes using video in various formats, explore current production tools, and experiment with augmented reality.

Example of a slide presented during the first day of the lab, putting technology and art history side by side
Movement exercises and creative prompts guide reflections on the relationship between our bodies and technological systems in the present. The workshop approaches “technologies of augmentation” not only as digital tools, but as ancestor-futurist apparatuses capable of reshaping how bodies, images, and environments interact.

Secret Society is a young adult book label created by Penguin Random House Portugal. For its first 10 releases, I designed and developed a series of augmented reality butterflies for Instagram, each one connected to a different book cover. The butterflies were individually 3D modeled and animated to appear as though they were resting directly on the covers. These Instagram AR experiences enhanced the original artwork and brought the publisher’s vision of a butterfly collection to life as a digital extension of the book series.

IGNOTO VIBRATIONS XR SCULPTURE 2022
CLIENT:RIO ART MUSEUM (MAR), GOETHE INSTITUTE
POSITION:XR DIRECTOR AND CREATOR
TOOLS: ADOBE AERO (PROTOTYPING), 8TH WALL, BLENDER, MIRO

Ignoto Vibrations is a mixed-reality sculpture series and performance commissioned for the Museum Conference at Rio Art Museum (MAR) in Brazil. I co-created the project in collaboration with the artist Rodrigo Andreolli and the architect Marilia Piraju. As an XR director, I coordinated an international team of tech professionals (AR developer, 3D modeler, and animator) and designed the user experience.
The fire at the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro on September 2, 2018, created images loaded with symbolic force about the treatment conditions given to Brazil's scientific and cultural research. This fire caused the loss of the most important museum collections in the country's history, but at the same time made us reflect on the weight of certain historical narratives, urging us to trace new memories that re-exist beyond the destroyed matter. Fire, in its tragic manifestation, also reaches its transcendental aspect.
Based on the study of narratives brought by researchers and members of the National Museum collection rescue team, this project proposes a prototype exhibition in Mixed Reality, motivated by 3D scans of some of the recovered pieces and the memories lost in the fire.

	MOURNING STAGE VISUAL EFFECTS(VFX) 2022
CLIENT:CARLOS MOTTA AND SIMON(E) JAIKIRIUMA PAETAU
POSITION:VFX DESIGNER AND ANIMATOR TOOLS:ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS, PREMIERE AND PHOTOSHOP
Mourning Stage is a film that uses a series of drawings as a performance score. I worked on creating visual effects using face-tracking technology to animate 2D masks created by the artist Carlos Motta and move in sync with Simon(e)’s Paetau performance.
These images depict different renditions of the devil in hell. Among this group of demons, there are feminized characters that suggest sexual perversions as typified by the Catholic imagination. In the film, Simon(e) Paetau interprets and responds to the drawings using her body and facial expressions in a ritualistic performance, where the body, fetishized and colonized by morality, is mourned.

AUGMENTEND PERFORMANCE STUDIO AR WORKSHOP 2022

CLIENT: SCHOOL OF THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO POSITION: AR EDUCATOR
TOOLS: SPARK AR, ZOOM, PERFORMANCE

Augmented Performance Studio is a 4 hours workshop created when I had the honor of being a guest artist at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The experience was tailored for the Mixed Reality Performance class, taught by Mark Jeffrey and Judd Morrissey. The workshop offered an opportunity for students to explore the intersection of AR and performance, using Spark AR, hand-tracking techniques and performance dynamics.

PREPARATION AND TOOLS
To fully immerse themselves in the workshop experience, students were asked to think about something intangible or virtual, such as a memory, a dream, or a future projection, and represent it as a word or simple drawing. They brought this 2D asset to the workshop in either PNG, JPEG, or SVG format. Students were also asked to download, install, and log in to Spark AR Studio, as well as have Instagram or Spark AR Player on their cellphones for testing and experimentation.

CLIENT: BIEN INCLUSIVE MOTION DESIGN STUDIO
POSITION:AR DESIGNER TOOLS:META SPARK STUDIO AND BLENDER
Ramenhead is an AR world effect created together with Bien, an inclusive motion design studio based in Los Angeles, California. The project simulates a snow globe and was part of an XR Holiday card for one of their clients to use in an internal campaign.

In the AR audiovisual experience, you can "open" and "close" the ramen shop by tapping the 3D model.

The animation was inspired by Japanese folk toys called Kyodo gangu and German cuckoo clocks.

	THE FIREBIRD XR SCULPTURE 2021
CLIENT:PROTOTYPE POSITION:CREATOR AND DIRECTOR TOOLS:BLENDER, SPARK AR, LENS STUDIO, ILLUSTRATOR, PERFORMANCE

The Firebird is a mixed reality live performance. It tells a more-than-human myth about extinction, migration, and dreams in the context of an environmental emergency. The audience experiences this through choreography, relational physical sculptures and AR layers.

The eyes of the Firebird. Choreographic experiment with AR layer visualized through an AR app

HOW IT WORKS
As part of performance-installation, the audience dynamically interacts with AR layers, moving in sync with the performance. The piece features unique target trackers, each borne by a different performer. These trackers trigger distinct audiovisual AR sculptures that represent various parts of an unseen critter: the left eye, the right eye, wings, the fire seed technology in the Firebird’s belly, and the tail.

Audiences can activate these trackers via an app on their cellphone or an AR headset, enhancing their involvement in the collective choreography and their connection to the mixed reality sculptures.

THE MYTH

A fire catastrophe destroys The Firebird community, forcing the sole survivor to migrate to the last safe place: A-city, where no one is allowed to sleep anymore. Now, they need to find a way of ensuring that their dream-tree technology won't go extinct.
